  • National Resource Center on LGBT & Aging http://www.lgbtagingcenter.org/index.cfm The National Resource Center on LGBT Aging is the country’s first and only technical assistance resource center aimed at improving the quality of services and supports offered to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) older adults.
  • Planning Tips for LGBT Individuals and Couples http://www.lgbtagingcenter.org/resources/resource.cfm?r=32 This publication offers tips on key areas that LGBT older adults should address—such as estate planning, health care, financial and retirement planning and employee benefits—to ensure that their heirs receive what’s intended and that their health care decisions are honored.

The mission of SAGE is to lead in addressing issues related to LGBT aging. In partnership with constituents and allies, SAGE works to achieve a high quality of life for LGBT older adults, supports and advocates for their rights, fosters a greater understanding of aging in all communities, and promotes positive images of LGBT life in later years.

  • The Aging and Health Report – Disparities and Resilience among Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Older Adults http://caringandaging.org/ Professor Fredriksen-Goldsen and colleagues reveal key aging and health disparities impacting LGBT older adults. Over 2,500 LGBT adults ranging in age from 50 to 95 participated  across the nation. This report is sponsored by AARP, The Gerontological Society of America, National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, and CSWE Gero-Ed Center.

  • Public Policy & Aging Report: Integrating LGBT Older Adults into Aging Policy & Practice – Summer 2011 http://www.sageusa.org/resources/resource_view.cfm?resource=304 This issue, cosponsored by SAGE, explores several topics related to LGBT aging, including the absence of research and public policies devoted to LGBT populations; the failure of existing broad-based aging policies to incorporate LGBT needs and interests; the need for cultural competency training among services personnel; coalition work between organizations working with LGBT and elders of color to advance common policy goals; and the profound implications of a demographic estimate showing that one in two Americans living with HIV will be 50 and older by 2015.
